Since 1889, Farnborough Hill has been a champion of girls’ education. Founded by a group of religious Sisters who led the school until the mid-90s, we understand girls and are unashamedly proud to be a powerhouse of strong, compassionate young women.

The research which shows the benefit to girls of being educated with other girls is compelling: simply put, it scientifically demonstrates, again and again, that all-girls education is the best option for girls

It has long been known that girls in girls’ school get better grades (FFT Education Datalab has one such research project), but the benefits don’t stop there.

The Girls’ School Association commissioned a huge research project to investigate and subsequently highlight the benefits of all girls’ education, which your daughter could be advantaged by should she join Farnborough Hill:

  • Girls in girls' school are more confident and well-rounded young women
  • Girls in girls’ schools are 2.6 times as likely to take Further Maths, and more than twice as likely to take Physics and Computer Science at A level – compared to girls in other schools
  • Girls’ schools buck the trend for girls’ participation in male-dominated sports, with more continuing to play them in our schools

Higher academic achievement? Tick.

More co-curricular involvement? Tick.

Greater confidence and emotional intelligence? Tick.

In addition, American research showed that girls leaving an all-girls’ school to go on to university showed ‘greater academic engagement’, ‘higher science self-confidence’, ‘stronger community involvement’, ‘higher levels of cultural competency’ and ‘increased political engagement’ than their peers from co-educational schools*. Girls’ schools help to shatter the glass ceiling, giving their former pupils an edge when it comes to life beyond school.

In a society where we are still (unbelievably!) striving for gender equality, why not allow your daughter to be educated in an environment where gender stereotypes just don’t exist? Why not allow her to discover who she is without male bias? Why not give her the freedom to express herself throughout her teenage years with peers who are developing, physically and emotionally, on the same trajectory as her? Why not give her the leg up of an all-girls education?

We see, every day, the empowering and transformational effect our girl-centred education has on girls. The teenage years hold such challenges, perhaps now more than ever before, but we are all committed to helping your daughter to thrive in these turbulent times, to know herself and to feel comfortable, to find her spark, to learn to serve others, to do the very best that she can and to be happy. This is a joyful school, with a big heart, and although society has changed profoundly since the early days of the RCE Sisters, their faith-filled vision and commitment to creating a school with a powerfully transformative ethos has never dimmed. Schools like ours have a real impact on girls’ life chances and we are delighted to offer this to your daughters. It remains an inspiration and a privilege. Simply put, there is no better start to your daughter’s young adult life than an all-girls' education. Do your own independent research, then book an Open Afternoon to come along and see this outstanding, female-centric, forward-thinking school for yourself. Long live the independent girls’ school!
