As you would expect, Farnborough Hill’s commitment to ‘educating the whole person’ carries through into our industrious, energetic Sixth Form. Yes, academic focus is a big thing at A level, but so, too, is seizing all those final opportunities to be fulfilled.
This is the time for exploiting all Farnborough Hill offers. Through our extensive network we can offer access to expertise and opportunities, be it university practice interviews, work experience placements or leadership training via CAFOD Young Leaders, the Ivy House Award and running clubs and societies for younger pupils. Each experience feeds into a top-quality, stand-out university or apprenticeship application, with the grades to back it up. Our Sixth Form team have a wealth of experience in advising students on their next steps and take a great deal of pride in guiding the students through their decisions. Oh, and did we mention the Extended Project Qualification? Worth half an A level (and so carrying UCAS points!), students can hone university-ready research and writing skills while investigating a topic they are passionate about. Climate change, health, disease and even serial killers... it can, really, be anything they’d like to know more about.
Students can also expect an incredible Careers offering including mentoring from one of our Old Girls, our biennial Careers Fair, interview practice and networking evenings with working professionals. We support the girls to find work experience and they can meet with our Careers Advisor as often as they like to explore options and pathways.
Sixth form on the hill offers students the chance to give back to our local communities and charities and our ReAct programme is tailored to the interests of the students - some have taught English to Refugees, while others have coordinated HUGE hamper collections for St Vincent de Paul and our annual Sixth Form Charity Week enables everyone to get involved and raise money in increasingly imaginative ways for their chosen charities.
We mustn’t forget of course, the fantastic and constantly evolving array of Enrichment activities encompassing everything from TEFL to Scuba Diving! Take a look at our Super-Curriculum Guide to find out how our students spend their Friday afternoons.
All of this is built into our students’ timetables, complementing their studies and giving them proper space and opportunity to focus on enriching themselves, helping others and crossing that bridge from school to university.
