Over the course of two joy-filled days, we were excited to welcome over 100 buzzing Year 5 pupils for the annual Busy Bee taster days.
While most positively bounced into the Hall at drop-off, some were a little more hesitant, but a few ice breaker games including splat and wink murder, plus an obligatory cookie, soon had all the visitors relaxed and happily enjoying the company of the Sixth Form Beekeepers.
They flitted off to their first sessions, full of exuberant anticipation as to what their tasks would be. Those who had chosen PE were thrilled to be handed bats and cricket balls; in the Art studio they painted magnificent buddleia flowers using acrylics and cue tips and in DT they made perfect little wooden cars. In Food they baked (and devoured!) their second cookie of the day and in the Library they made wonderfully lyrical cut and stick poems from old newspaper clippings. The History session allowed the Bees to learn about the history of the Old House (and see all the bee-themed décor hidden within!), while their competitive spirits were unleashed in Mathematics. Sessions in Drama, English, Music, Computing and Languages completed the days offerings.
A hearty lunch (nuggets and pizza, of course), followed by a play on the Hill, brought the Bees together and gave strength to the friendships which had taken root during the activity sessions.
It was heart warming to see the girls leave with huge smiles, ready to share stories of their day with their parents. Meanwhile, the sixth formers hightailed it to the sofas for a rest, rather awed by the boundless energy of the Year 5 Bees. The Busy Bees taster days are the epitome of wholehearted; a huge thank you to the amazing Beekeepers, and to the fantastic Bees themselves!
