On Wednesday 29 November, the Music Department pulsated with infectious rhythms as pupils from Year 9 to Upper Sixth embarked on a Taiko drumming adventure with the esteemed 'Taiko Meantime'. The air crackled with anticipation as they gathered around an array of majestic Japanese drums, including the resonating Miya-daiko, the thunderous Okedo-daiko, and the crisp Shime-daiko.
Under the expert guidance of their Taiko maestro, the groups delved into the fascinating world of Taiko drumming, mastering the form and technique that coaxed forth the true essence of these ancient instruments. With each strike, the pupils learned to harness their energy, channelling it into a symphony of powerful beats that echoed through the choir room.
For all of the pupils this was their first encounter with Taiko drumming, and they were invited to unleash their creativity, improvising within the framework of the ensemble. The room transformed into a melting pot of rhythmic ingenuity and, as the workshop drew to a close, the girls emerged with a newfound appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of Taiko drumming.
