Now in its second year, the Empower programme reached an important milestone over the last couple of weeks as this year's cohort of Year 9 girls pitched their ideas to a panel of expert judges, including Mrs Lauren McCready and Miss Ella Federico from the Marketing Department, Governor, Mrs Julie Micklethwaite and Acting Head, Mrs Zoe Ireland.
Having practised for a number of weeks, each group gave wonderful presentations, demonstrating stage presence, a clarity of structure and a clear conviction in each of their ideas. Their ability to respond to the often probing questions from the judges was also impressive. In addition to inventive PowerPoints, we were treated to music, choreography and even some video demonstrations of the proposed activities. These activities spanned the three strands of STEM, Creative Arts and Sports and included an army-themed Capture the Flag, Dr Lloyd’s Crazy Slime Adventure and a challenge to Save the Seal by completing a series of STEM-based challenges.
All members of Year 9 contributed to the delivery of the presentations and each pupil should be proud of what they have achieved. The judges have a difficult task on their hands but their decisions will be announced next week, after which it is full steam ahead to turn their ideas into reality ahead of the Empower Activity Day on Tuesday 25 June 2024!
