The end of the Winter Term has brought many festivities to the Hill. On Friday 6 December, we held our Christmas on the Hill event. There was a palpable buzz and excitement in the air as the School was transformed into a festive Christmas market with an amazing selection of stalls from our Houses, Young Enterprise teams and local businesses. The Swing Band delighted visitors in the Grand Salon with familiar favourites such as Winter Wonderland and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, our younger visitors enjoyed playing festive games, having their faces painted and making decorative Christmas cards in Lafosse whilst the delicious Hog Roast, Pizzas and Waffles proved to be a popular way to keep hunger at bay! It was wonderful to see so many members of our school community come together to raise important funds for our five House Charities. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their generous donations and support of Christmas on the Hill, we raised an impressive total of £3,590. We are already making preparations for next year; so it is even bigger and better!

Following the fabulous Christmas on the Hill event, families and friends piled into the Hall with excitement for our annual music Christmas Celebration. We heard beautiful renditions of many Christmas classics, from Vivaldi’sGloria to Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ around the Christmas Tree. We heard from the Junior Choir, String Group, Wind Band, Junior Chamber Choir, Senior Choir and many soloists too! The Christmas Celebration was a momentous success. It takes a lot of courage to stand up on stage and perform to a large audience, and everyone who took part should be incredibly proud of themselves.

The final week of term saw the Christmas spirit flourishing, with pupils from across the Year Groups taking part in our inaugural Christmas Open Mic event in the Ref. From rock bands to melodeon solos, pupils and staff were treated to a staggering variety of music as they ate their lunch. The event featured a mixture of solo and ensemble performances, most of which were prepared by the pupils themselves. It was a delight to see the pupils supporting one another and celebrating each other's talents.

No Christmas celebration is truly complete without the vibrant spectacle of festive jumpers! Christmas Jumper Day was the epitome of holiday cheer, a delightful blend of whimsical knitwear, festive merriment and the crowning glory: a truly unforgettable Christmas lunch. Everywhere you looked was a feast for the eyes and the lunch was most definitely a feast for the taste buds! Lunch was followed by Christmas crafts and activities and, to top the day off in the most festive way, the Sixth Form-directed Staff Panto! This year’s delight was Snow on the Hill, a brilliantly funny take on the classic Snow White. To top it all off, our Jumper Day raised a whopping £1,500 for CAFOD World Gifts! A huge thanks to all the staff involved in making the day so much fun, especially our amazing Catering Team, and a big well done to the Sixth Form panto team. Bravo!

The penultimate day of term saw the Chapel bathed in the warm glow of community as we gathered for the annual Advent Carol Service. It was a heartwarming sight to behold – the Chapel filled with families, friends, and esteemed guests, including Abbot Cuthbert and the Brothers from Farnborough Abbey, all united in celebrating this cherished moment in the Christian festive season. As the Winter Term draws to a close, we reflect on a period filled with joy, generosity, community spirit and remarkable achievements. The festive season at Farnborough Hill has been a resounding success and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to these memorable events, from the dedicated staff and talented pupils to the supportive parents and The Friends. We wish our entire school community a joyous and peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
