Year 11 Farnborough_Hill_News

We were thrilled to welcome back our Year 11 girls to Farnborough Hill to celebrate their outstanding GCSE results.  With 53% of pupils achieving grades 9-7 and 97% achieving grades 9 - 4, they have reaped the rewards of two years of hard work and commitment.

Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Further Maths candidates all averaged over grade 7, as did those taking Geography, History and Music, while 34% of all grades achieved were grade 8 - 9 (A* equivalent).

On an individual level, Gabriella, Nour, Alice, Chinwe, Eesha, Emma, Ella, Sucheta, Annie, Lucy, Delilah and Beth celebrated grades 9 - 8 across all their subjects.

The pupils’ GCSE achievements sit alongside their wholehearted commitment to the wider life of the School, including fundraising for Comic Relief and the School House charities, participation in co-curricular Sport, Music and Drama, including West End-worthy productions of My Fair Lady and Twelfth Night, and intrepid adventures on both the Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s expeditions.

Acting Head Zoe Ireland commended the achievements and approach of the pupils as she reflected on their results today:

I am immensely proud of the achievements of our girls today.  Despite the government tightening grade boundaries back to pre-pandemic levels, Farnborough Hill pupils have defied the odds to achieve a higher percentage of grades at 9 - 7 than in the previous year.  They are a fantastic group who have contributed widely to the School and community with their wit and humour bringing colour to every day.  Their tenacity and grit certainly played a part in achieving these fantastic grades today and I look forward to seeing what this brilliantly talented Year Group will achieve over the next two years in the Sixth Form.

I would also like to mention and thank the teachers who worked alongside the pupils throughout the pandemic and beyond to support them in fulfilling their potential, and achieving their best in the first set of public examinations they have taken.

Official results for Level 1 and 2 Project Qualifications were also published today, with just under half of Farnborough Hill’s Year 9 pupils having completed this independent research project during the past academic year.  We are thrilled that some 86% of Project Qualification candidates secured A* and A grades for their efforts, with 100% of pupils earning A* - C grades.  Topics investigated by the pupils were wide and varied, including: Isabella’s investigation titled: ‘Xenotransplantation has both benefits and risks surrounding it.  Do the benefits of this justify the continuation of xenotransplantation?’, Emily’s exploration of ‘Was the crash of Jules Bianchi due to driver error or was the FIA at fault?’ and Lauren’s study into ‘Should transgender women be allowed to compete under the category of “women” in elite sports?’.  Congratulations to all the girls on such interesting and informative Projects.
