On Saturday 8 July, a day after the end of the Summer Term, 48 musicians from Years 7 to 9, as well as five members of staff, gathered at Farnborough Hill, eager to depart for what we believe to have been the inaugural Junior Music Tour. A short bus ride later and we had arrived at the majestic Canford School in Wimborne where we were superbly hosted in one of the girls' boarding houses.
Over the next four days, some intense rehearsals were mixed with the opportunity to see some of the sights and sounds of this wonderful part of the country as we enjoyed a stream train ride to Swanage, a private boat cruise around Poole Harbour and a visit to the beautiful market town of Sherborne. Not only were the girls able to master the complex choral repertoire needed for Communion and Evensong Services at Wimborne Minster, but it was wonderful to hear both choral and instrumental ensembles, as well as some talented soloists, perform at St Mary’s Church, Swanage, and in the magnificent Sherborne Abbey.
Music Tours are always a wonderful way to meet new people and to make new friends and this was certainly the case on this trip. The girls were a huge credit to the School, both on and off the stage, and were a pleasure to be with. Thank you to the staff who accompanied the trip - Mrs Emma Judge, Mrs Hannah Van Klaveren and Mrs Carrie McNerney - and particularly to Miss Lucy Warwick who, in one of her final acts for Farnborough Hill, organised and led the tour with utter distinction, ensuring that we all enjoyed a wonderful end to another busy musical year.
