The wait is at last over and we are delighted to let you know that all our Upper Sixth students have now received offers from the majority of Russell Group universities. In addition, we are immensely proud to announce that two of our students have secured undergraduate offers at Cambridge. These offers are a testament to the hard work and dedication demonstrated by each and every one of them.
From crafting personal statements to demonstrating passion and excellence in interviews, all the students truly went above and beyond. We are confident that each one of our students will find the perfect academic journey to fuel their aspirations and shine, be it in Marine Biology, English, Engineering or Law. Congratulations again to our Cambridge acceptances and best of luck to all in achieving your dreams.

I spent much of my Lower Sixth year unsure about applying to Oxbridge. I was unsure whether Oxford or Cambridge suited me better, unsure whether I wanted to apply for Music or Classics, and unsure even whether I was a good fit for the universities overall. In the end, I applied to read Classics at Newnham College, Cambridge. Going to open days helped me to decide on the university, and evaluating my lessons helped me decide on the subject; I always did a lot of extra reading for Classics and took great joy in discussing it and exploring it. These are the two things I’d advise anyone looking at Oxbridge to do - go to the open days and read around your subject as much as possible!
The application process itself was tough. I sent my personal statement off before the October deadline, and then I buried myself in books. I had touched on many areas in my personal statement and Classics is quite broad, encompassing fields from history to drama to philosophy, so I wanted to make sure I could confidently discuss topics that might come up in interview. I also had to refresh my Ancient Greek from GCSE and my understanding of grammar for a language assessment interview and send in some essays. In December, I received news that I had an interview, and was torn between nerves and excitement; the prospect of talking with university professors in my subject was both intimidating and enthralling. After some rigorous discussions, I left for the holidays crossing my fingers. In January, my offer came in and I am still so excited about it!
Throughout the process, I was supported by the amazing Classics Department, particularly Mr Maccherini and Mrs Landowski. Thank you for the Philosophy crash courses and the theatre discussions we had! I also received great help from Mrs Symonds-Keates, who supported me and arranged a mock interview.
To anyone who is considering Classics, or any other subject, at Cambridge - go for it! Even if you think it’s too late to start preparing, if you read around your subject and enjoy it that will show in interview, and the teachers at school are endlessly supportive. It’s a delightful opportunity, to get to do what I love in such a focused environment. Now it’s time to work hard and get the grades I need!
